The temporary HR Manager for Staff Employment & Compensation manages the recruiting, payroll, compensation, and other personnel functions for the Information School鈥檚 (iSchool) regular and temporary staff (classified, professional, and represented civil service exempt) and hourly student assistant employees. The individual in this position is responsible for ensuring the iSchool recruits diverse, highly qualified employees; maintains equitable compensation; ensures timely and accurate payroll; and properly manages records. This position works with a high level of independence, reporting to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Operations.
The temporary HR Manager for Staff Employment & Compensation is responsible for interpreting and implementing University human resources and payroll policies, procedures, and best practices, working directly with UW Human Resources, the UW Employee Workday Help and other campus units and colleagues. This position advises iSchool supervisors and employees as well as provides advice and recommendations to iSchool Leadership regarding recruitment, compensation, and other human resources policies, procedures, best practices, and actions. The individual in this position must show exceptionally good judgment in dealing with issues of a sensitive nature. iSchool Staff Human Resources team consistently supports over 140 individual staff and student employee positions, with a growing breadth and complexity in the types of positions.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Recruitment and Onboarding Management (50%)
- Manage and oversee the iSchool鈥檚 staff and student assistant recruitment processes, ensuring there is a focus on enhancing the school鈥檚 diversity and talent.
- Oversee and complete transactional processes to facilitate hiring and onboarding, including the processes for requests, approvals, costing allocation confirmations, communications to process partners, and other actions.
- Manage staff and student employee recruitments, including but not limited to:
- Assist supervisors in the development of position descriptions and preparation of proposals for approval of new or revised positions.
- Advise on approaches to recruiting, interviewing, and selecting candidates.
- Assess and recommend salary ranges and determine job classifications.
- Prepare and place position advertisements.
- Coordinate hiring committees as needed and provide training on diversity hiring best practices.
- May screen applications.
- May participate in the interview process.
- May perform comprehensive reference checks as needed or requested.
- Prepare or oversee correspondence with applicants and schedule of interviews.
- Make salary offer recommendations.
- Facilitate salary negotiations.
- Secure central University approval for hiring desired candidates.
- Complete the hiring process with new employees.
- Direct the recruitment and onboarding workflows for staff and student assistants, maintaining schedule of pending and projected hiring plans, establishing and adjusting recruitment and onboarding timelines, and taking other actions to ensure there is adequate time for effective recruitments to avoid workload conflicts for Staff HR, hiring managers, and hiring committees.
- Ensure compliance with all University hiring policies and procedures; act as liaison with central HR offices for hiring compliance issues. Modify iSchool internal hiring procedures and policies as necessary.
- Oversee the facilitation of new employee orientations for staff and student assistants with a focus on the effective transition of new employees into their roles and the iSchool community. Advise supervisors on orienting and training new employees.
Payroll, Time, Staffing and Compensation Management (30%)- Monitor procedures for the timely and accurate processing of payroll and management of employee time and leave.
- Oversee the proper maintenance and retention of confidential permanent and temporary staff personnel and payroll records; initiate, record and ensure the accuracy of personnel and payroll action documents.
- Manage bi-weekly payroll review processes, including timely updates and entry of information into Workday (including costing allocation changes) and payroll accounting adjustments. Ensure effective processes for coordinating with internal iSchool process partners.
- Manage transactional processes to facilitate communication of payroll information, job changes, compensation changes, and other employee transactions, including the use of electronic processes and tools.
- Advise supervisors and unit leaders in assessing unit specific staffing structure, functional duties, and salary planning.
- Provide compensation analysis, including complex UW peer position analysis, and make salary recommendations to the Assistant Dean for Finance and Operations for staff and student assistant hourly positions.
- Review and recommend position changes and reclassifications for professional and classified staff.
Policy, Procedure and Data Management (10%)
- Provide informational presentations to employees and supervisors.
- As needed, may be asked to research, recommend, implement, and oversee HR policies and procedures, and guidelines necessary for establishing proper human resources processes and actions related to employment and compensation.
- Interpret and make recommendations for the school鈥檚 implementation of UW, State and Federal human resources and contractual employment policies, regulations and procedures related to employment and compensation.
- Provide personnel data as requested by internal and external parties for accreditation and other related surveys.
- Maintain internal systems for tracking and managing human resources information and supporting processes; collaborating with internal iSchool partners on integration of complex tools.
- Maintain and update Staff HR intranet site as needed.
Other (10%)
- Attend meetings and participate in activities of campus wide human resources and payroll groups, and the iSchool HR Network team.
- Collaborate with iSchool HR Network members and serve on iSchool committees, operational leaders, and other special project groups as requested.
- Attend and participate in All School, Staff meetings, committees, iSchool events and other activities as needed.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to expand knowledge base for the position.
- Perform other duties as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Supervise one full-time HR Assistant Senior. Hire, train, complete performance evaluations, and make recommendations for disciplinary action as needed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree in Human Resource Management (HRM), Business, Communications or other related field.
- Minimum 4 years general office experience with at least 2 years human resources experience (preferably in an institution of higher education).
- Knowledge of general human resources and payroll policies, procedures and principles.
- Fluent in MS Office: Word, Excel, Outlook (or other equivalent email product) and have prior experience using databases.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with demonstrated presentation and orientation experience.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, be very detailed orientated and work effectively under the pressure of deadlines.
- Experience with a Human Resources Information System (HRIS).
- Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Experience working with both Union and Non-Union employees.
- Experience interpreting complex contracts and/or policies.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of Washington State employment law.
- Knowledge of University of Washington human resources policies and systems.
- Experience with Workday, PeopleSoft or other equivalent HRIS.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is temporary appointment that will last approximately 8.5 months in duration (mid-June 2025 through February 2026). The role is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation of at least 2 days per week in office (UW Seattle campus, UW Tower).
POSITION PURPOSE
The Sponsored Project Manager is responsible for facilitating and overseeing sponsored Capstone and Practicum projects across all participating programs at the Information School, including Master of Science in Information Management (MSIM), Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS), and Bachelor of Science in Informatics (INFO) programs. The primary focus of this role is to solicit, scope, and provide ongoing management of these projects, ensuring a valuable learning experience for students and successful outcomes for sponsors. This position works within the iEngage team.
This Sponsored Project Manager role is crucial to providing students with valuable Capstone and Practicum experience while delivering tangible benefits to project sponsors.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Capstone and Practicum Program Support (50%)
- Develop policies and procedures related to sponsored projects, working with faculty, program chairs, and other stakeholders within the iSchool to ensure alignment with curriculum and school-wide policies.
- Revise, maintain, and manage the project submission form and supporting processes.
- Develop, revise, and publish guidance for sponsors on the iSchool Capstone webpage and related information in the Capstone Handbook for students.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation of sponsored projects and actively track the status of project proposals.
- Continuously improve the sponsored project program and its processes based on feedback from sponsors, students, and faculty.
- Provide guidance to project students on nondisclosure agreements (NDAs) or other related documents.
- Define success metrics and establish tracking processes for the program.
Sponsor Outreach and Management (30%)
- Actively seek and develop relationships with potential project sponsors from various industries and sectors.
- Plan and execute annual sponsor outreach campaigns, including developing messaging and targeting alumni, previous sponsors, and other relevant audiences.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for sponsors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Communicate the value proposition of Capstone and Practicum to potential sponsors.
- Work with iEngage team, Alumni Relations, and Career Services to develop strategies for relationship development and retention of sponsors.
- Collaborate with faculty and sponsors to ensure projects align with learning objectives and provides an enriching Capstone experience for students.
- Ensure that project requirements align with program learning outcomes, student skill sets, and University policies.
- Work closely with sponsors to define realistic project objectives and deliverables, including risk identification and mitigation, in coordination with faculty.
- Manage the full proposal lifecycle, including assisting sponsors with preparation and coordinating review processes with faculty.
- Serve as an escalation point for issues with project sponsors.
- Support outreach to underserved communities and organizations for engagement in Capstone, Practicum, and other experiential learning opportunities to support their missions.
- Explore and pilot test revenue generation strategies to enhance program sustainability through sponsored projects.
Event Support (15%)
- Support events related to the Capstone experience, including Capstone Networking Night and iSchool Gala reception.
- Coordinate sponsor participation and facilitate connections between students and sponsors during events.
Other (5%)
- Collaborate with faculty, program chairs, and the iEngage team to identify sponsored project needs and expand opportunities for student learning.
Lead Responsibilities
- May assign work to graduate assistant that supports the iEngage program.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree in information management, library science, informatics, business, computer science or a related field.
2 years of experience in project management, or related roles.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

WORKING CONDITIONS

POSITION PURPOSE
The Informatics Academic Advisor provides academic advising and student support for current and prospective students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Informatics (INFO). Reporting to the Lead Informatics Advisor, this position collaborates with all members of the INFO program team (Chair, Program Manager, other Academic Advisors, Program Coordinator) as well as iSchool Admissions, faculty, students, UW departments, employers, and community partners to support and develop the Informatics degree and minor programs and to facilitate the program鈥檚 goals.
Responsibilities include academic advising, communications, degree program promotion, student recruitment, event planning, records management, and other student services. This advisor serves as the primary point of contact for prospective students and works closely with the iSchool Office of Admissions on program outreach and recruitment initiatives. Additionally, the advisor supports joint student-facing activities, such as new student welcome events and graduation. They are expected to participate in iSchool communities of practice related to student support and advising, sharing best practices across the school鈥檚 five degree programs.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Academic Advising and Student Support (60%)
- Provide academic advising for the Informatics program with an emphasis on prospective students including advising on degree options, admissions, transfer, financial resources, and university policy and procedure.
- Counsel students with academic, financial, and personal difficulties. Refer students as necessary to appropriate campus or community resources.
- Advise students on procedures in matters of misconduct. As requested, consult with the Program Chair, Executive Director of Academics, the Associate Dean of Academics and faculty to escalate or resolve matters of student misconduct. Participate in student conduct proceedings, if requested.
- Facilitate paperwork for INFO students including independent study, curricular practical training (CPT), change of major, curriculum waivers, and graduation applications. Resolve routine requests as needed. Consult with INFO Program Chair and Associate Dean for Academics, as appropriate.
- Keep informed of resources both on and off campus to assist INFO students in their academic and personal pursuits.
- Other duties as assigned in consultation with supervisor, Program Manager and/or Program Chair.
Recruiting and Admissions for Informatics Degree and Minor (20%)
- Support outreach and recruiting initiatives for the Informatics program under the guidance of the Information School Associate Director of Admissions, the iSchool Program Manager for Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Access (IDEAS) and Lead Informatics Advisor.
- Support activities to recruit prospective students.
- Collaborate with UW Undergraduate Admissions Office on first-year student recruiting activities.
- Advise prospective students on the program and the application process.
- Collaborate with academic units across the UW to promote Informatics.
- Participate on the INFO Admissions Committee.
Event Planning (10%)
- Plan information sessions, and recruitment activities to support the recruitment of Informatics majors.
- Assist in planning student-facing activities shared across programs including the iSchool Welcome for New Students, iSchool Career Fair, iSchool Showcase, and iSchool Convocation.
- Collaborate with Informatics staff to schedule and facilitate INFO new student orientations.
- Participate with UW First Year Program advising and orientation programs.
Communication and Information Dissemination (10%)
- Respond to student inquiries via email, phone, in-person, and zoom.
- Manage the general email accounts for prospective and current students.
- Disseminate information via various communications channels (i.e., email, social media, canvas) to prospective INFO students.
- Help maintain accurate information for the INFO web pages.
- Update iSchool students on University and School policies and regulations as needed.
- Make recommendations to the iSchool Associate Director of Admissions and the Director of Communications for new publication projects that benefit the INFO program.
- Participate in iSchool and University-wide committees as appropriate.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor鈥檚 degree in informatics, Communication, Social Science, Education, Information Science, or related field.
- Three years of experience in student advising, outreach and recruiting, or equivalent education/experience.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- Experience in program planning and management, preferably in student services.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office products including SharePoint, Teams, and Bookings.
- Demonstrated success in working with diverse populations.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a team, and to lead others.
- Excellent communications skills with demonstrated ability to convey information effectively in writing, verbally, and via technology.
- Familiarity working with CRMs to manage communications.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience in outreach and recruiting in grade 6-12 focused organizations.
- Experience using UW systems such as Electronic Advising Records System (EARS) / Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) and Keynes Student Database (SDB).
- Familiarity with UW policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with Canvas or equivalent learning management systems.
- Familiarity with UW undergraduate policies and procedures.
- Familiarity with video/web conferencing technology such as Zoom.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires a flexible work schedule, with occasional weekend and evening hours, and the occasional need to travel for student recruitment activities.
This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement, with an expectation of at least 3 days per week in office (UW Seattle campus).
